Why did you want to join us?

My sister worked for PPHE Hotel Group and she made me aware that a Painter Decorator role was being advertised. The role and the company suited my skillset and work ethic perfectly.

Has the company lived up to your expectations?

More than lived up to them. After I’d worked for a year, I was given the opportunity to study French polishing, at the same time as working at Holmes Hotel London. After a year of successful training, I now have a marvellous new position.

What’s involved in your role?

Painting and decorating in every apart of the hotel, which includes applying decorative finishes. I repair minor wear and tear too. My French polishing skills fix the inevitable chips and scratches you get to wood surfaces in a busy hotel. And as a Christian whose faith means everything to me, it helps me to have a conscientious, diligent approach to my work and life.

What are your colleagues like?

They’re an outstanding, diverse group of people, both highly professional and fun to be around – everyone’s proud to play their part in running the maintenance team.

What do you enjoy about the job?

I like participating as a member of the team on different internal and external refurbishments.  As a female in the maintenance department, I’m treated no differently, which allows my natural creativity to flow.

How do you expect your skills to keep growing?

New projects bring new challenges, both artistic and practical. There are always opportunities for me to gain new skills and experience.

What’s been a memorable moment for you so far?

Two stand out. The team got together one time to hand decorate the message on a 10th birthday cake for a girl undergoing brain surgery – that was very special.  I was also asked to create a large piece of artwork for a manager’s office. It was a proud moment to see how much it was appreciated.
