As an Assistant Financial Controller for The Netherlands Region (approx 1000 rooms, 6 properties), you will support the Regional Financial Controller in determining the right (financial) direction by providing strategic & financial analyses on business related challenges for all the Hotels in The Netherlands.

Main role and objectives:

As Assistant Regional Financial Controller you will be part of the regional team and you will be reporting to the Regional Financial Controller in The Netherlands. You will take a leading role in the sharing of financial best practice across the Netherlands. You also anticipate in the implementation of multiple process and system improvement projects. You will monitor & review overall hotel performance against agreed key financial controls and identify areas of concern & make recommendations for improvement.

Job role responsibilities:

  • Problem solving: Assist in solving interrelated financial challenges within the various financial processes of PPHE Hotel Group which have a global impact on process, policy and performance metrics.  Provides support to internal and external auditors where required.
  • Management Information and Business Decision Support: Assist local hotel management and the Regional Financial Controller on the development of strategic plans and measures progress on the budget and possible improvement opportunities that will help to achieve regional objectives.
  • Business Strategy: Contribute to corporate strategy development and translates this into a regional  strategic plan. Coordinate and assists in the budget process in the region. Follow relevant trends and developments in the hospitality industry and in the hotel and contribute to the development of the PPHE strategic plan on a hotel level.  Track performance on regional budget and assist the Regional Financial Controller in implementing policies accordingly.
  • Leadership: Communics and leads in a complex (multiple stakeholder) environment and assists in setting up controls and boundaries to manage the performance of multiple processes effectively. Assists the local controllers where required.
  • Performance Management: Assist in analysing the entire performance of the region based on financial metrics that have been aligned with the local hotel management team. Measure the effectiveness of end to end processes and identify new business information needs based on financial, operational and external data sources. Assist in overseeing that local data is translated into budgets and useful forecasts and scenarios that help in improving the performance in the region. Performs monthly reviews of hotel balance sheets, ensuring adequate back-up for postings and accuracy of balances.
  • Influencing: Identify relevant business developments (financial, operational, and external) and act as a partner to the Regional Financial Controller in achieving business objectives.
  • Process improvements: Contribute to the management control of business processes by ensuring that the processes are performed to a high standard and contribute to the regions’ objectives. Assist in multidisciplinary projects for the implementation of improvements of a process or a system. Such as: Time and Attendance, Procurement, Costcontrol F&B, standard control framework, re-design of BI tool etc.
  • Risk management: Signal and acknowledge risks in P&L and facilitate the design of control measures to monitor risks. Actively monitor the risk and in case of exceedance escalate to the responsible person accordingly.
  • Stakeholder management: Carefully build a network within the local hotel finance and the rest of PPHE Hotel Group in order to be up to date with the latest developments on the work floor and within the group. You are able to understand the impact of these developments on the objectives and operating model.
  • Technical Knowledge: Engages in active collaboration with other Finance colleagues to identify opportunities for process improvement and embedding best tools, systems & ways of working. Proactively develop own skills and knowledge in the area of business control. Able to transfer knowledge to less experienced professionals in the region and other relevant stakeholders.

What we are looking for:

  • Successfully completed a bachelor degree in finance
  • Several years of experience in controlling or finance management
  • Preferably in a Business to consumer “B2C” environment
  • The ability to work with tight deadlines
  • Open-minded, enthusiastic and true team player

  • Has desired impact and influence on others in all forms of communication and communicates well on different levels.
